Half-broke finished
This book was great! It told a great story but didn't waste a ton of time on blah-blah. The author, Jeanette Walls, is a journalist by trade so she knows how to tell a story and stick to the point. Nothing frustrates me more than wanting to have the abridged version of a book and this wasn't the case. Turns out that Lily Case and her husband Jim are quite the resourceful and prairie people. It also gives light to the reason their daughter, Rosemary, is the way she is in the book the Glass Castle, which I highly recommend. Two thumbs up! Way up! Oh and Shonna buy the book and get started for heaven's sake. That goes for everyone else. You're gonna love it!

Loved the book, sad to be finished, I just want it to go on, I guess it did in Glass Castle. Love the stories about breaking horses, and the determination of this woman. Wow times have changed
, what 15 yr old would go 500 miles to take a job so she could go to school.
Yes, this was a great story. I totally cried about Helen, literally, tears rolling down my cheeks. So many good stories to help you know the characters. I loved Jim, felt bad about the stupid polygamists she knew, felt uncomfortable when she talked about the "wonder underwear," liked her resoluteness, so many more things. Here's one quote that I wrote down because I thought it was hilarious, it's when Rex gets thrown off a horse: "Oh, he's fine - just got the lace knocked off his panties."
