Stiff (not Stiffy)

I just finished the book today. These are a few of the things I don't want to eat after reading the book:

  • Butterfingers - she likened the cutting of a frozen brain to cutting Butterfinger candy bars
  • Jello - gelatinous cadavers are used to test bullets and guns (the cadavers are not humans, they are actually gelatin, but I still lost my taste for Jello)
  • Dungeness Crabs - apparently this is the most environmentally efficient way to dispose of human remains, by dropping the remains into a heavily populated area of crabs. The little critters would quickly feast on all your kibbles and bits.
The book was interesting, but I could only read a little bit at a time. I think it was well-written and I really liked the author's sense of humor and respect. It gives me a new perspective on Roger's job and the controversy surrounding the way we handle death in our culture.

I'm definitely for organ donation. I need to update my driver's license when it's up for renewal!

Stiff

Wow! So I have received this book in the mail, and right away started to read it. Sounds gross, but at the same time it is very interesting. Its hard to put it down. So far I am only on page 50, but I like it. My mom came over picked it up, got disgusted with me for reading it. Then she starts reading it, and also cant stop.....now she off to the library for her own copy. Funny huh! I think its settling to hear about some of the anatomy schools doing memorial services for the donated. I am a donor, but it has me thinking.......hmmmm.
