My Life In France

So, if you have not read this yet, I am strongly encouraging you to do so. I just got mine from the library this week and I have only gotten into the first few chapters. But wow, what an enjoyable read. Great storytelling. Interesting and it makes me want to go to Paris really bad. It sounds like they had such a great time. And it makes me very hungry. Anyway, Mom, ditch the Sparks novel for a while and give this one a whirl. It is a fun read.

I'm in the first third of a Nickolas Sparks book, it's a little slower reading this time, I'm not sure why if it's me or the book.

Miss Julia

I'm waiting for my book to come from the library. In the meantime, I might have had an epiphany. What do you think about making a Facebook page for our BLUB (that's my clever combination of "book club)? If I can get just two votes for yes, then I'll set it up! Ooooo, the pressure is on....

BTW, I haven't started the book yet. I saw the movie and loved it. Thanks to Stacey for taking my for my b-day!

Can it die when there's still 2 people who care enough to nurse it back to health?

Aaaarrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhh...........

That was the sound this blog made when it died.

Done

I finished Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince this morning. I can FINALLY go see the movie.

Saturday, August 8, 2009

What is the new book? Who's in charge now? I'm over 1/2 way done with Harry Potter 6, so I should be good to go by the end of the week...at most...

Memory problems

Gary and I started the book last night. Where are all of you in it? So what do all of you think of the question in the first chapter, "Why can I remember the past, but not the future?" Chew on that for a little while and get back to us...

Gary is going to choose a book either by or about Stephen Hawking. He'll hopefully let us all know by the end of the weekend...

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

I think this blog is getting lonely. I heard a rumor that Gary might have chosen a book. I hope this rumor is true. It was nice discussing Train to Potevka a few months ago with Bryan, Jaime, and Mom. I love spy stories and this being true life was even more interesting.

I have high hopes for the next book.....

Taking Turns

Okay, it's time for a new book. Since Jaime picked the last book, she will naturally be at the end of this list. I'm going alphabetically, with the exception of Jaime because we originally started with the list by couple rather than individual. So, here's the order:

Gary
KarieAnn
Mom
Roger
Sheryl
Shonna
Stacey
Jaime

Bryan and Jim are not on the list because they haven't expressed an interest so far. If that should change, we can add them to the end of the list. (I know Bryan read Train to Potevka, but I don't know if he's interested in participating enough to choose a book.) So, it's Gary's turn now. Can't wait to hear what it is. If you need to pass on your turn for any reason, just let everyone know.

Love to all!

Ta Freakin DA!!!! We're DONE!!!

Announcement. Gary and I have officially finished "Atlas Shrugged". It was 1069 pages long and took us 17 months to complete. HOORAY!!!! Course we read all those other books at the same time last year so that really isn't such a horrid time frame...right? Now we can start in with the book club again.

While I don't agree with the author's (Ayn Rand's) philosophy or morals, I'm glad we read the book. I'm glad we stuck with it and read the entire thing together. It's interesting to read other books and see what others believe. I won't recommend this book to anyone. She is WAY too wordy. She could have cut the book in half by eliminating sentences like, "John held himself in a way that exuded confidence, but not the kind of confidence one might normally find in every day life. It was the kind of confidence that says you are happy to be alive for the sake of being alive. That you enjoy every ligamental movement of your scapular artery in the subquantext of your lean mean freakin' muscle machine...that you move for the sake of moving. That you enjoy the...."

If you are saying "What the?" then you are in the same boat we were half the time we read it. Sometimes we just burst out laughing at the absurdity of it all. Anyway...

FINISHED!!!!

Well, I haven't even begun nor do I have the new book, Train to Potevka. I have been engrossed in the saga of Bella and Edward and Jacob..........boy what a fun series. I have to admit that at times Bella frustrated me. I think she was a little over dramatic at times. I did however really enjoy the books. I just finished last night. I have been not wanting to do anything else but read. I am leary at this moment to get started on another book for that reason. But, I will see if I can find that book and get going on it. I too read the Shack and really loved it. I would recommend it. Anyway, so now I want to see the movie of Twilight. Sami says it comes out in March. So, that will be exciting. I don't think it is playing in any theaters any more.

Back seat...

This is Stacey p.s. by the way. I've decided I'm not reading another book until Gary and I finished "Atlas Shrugged". It's been 1 1/2 years since we started it and we have 90 pages of 1180 to go. Sorry. We'll read Train to Potevka then.

Slowly

So I check this often to see if there are any new posts.....I was surprised to see one.
I am now on Breaking Dawn the 4th book of Twilight. Wow! What a series, its very addicting to continue reading, so A Train to Potevka has taken the back seat a bit. But here's a kicker...Bryan has just finished reading A Train to Potevka, so you can ask him away about it. I am so proud of him reading it, he is now onto reading The Shack(thanks to his mom).
I was just thinking though....was it really my turn to pick?Or bryans and did I just pick for him?

Good to know there's still a book club...

Gary mentioned tonight that he thought we should get the book club up and running again. Stacey and I both informed him that it was up and running. I guess we've kinda taken it slow the last little while, but that's what happens when you get a good series in there (Twilight)! Stacey told Gary that he needs to read that book. He decided to wait for the movie - he thinks it's probably better anyway. I hope he's not thinking too hard about that one! :)

Any thoughts on Train to Potevka?

Reading still......

I am still reading Twilight. I would say I am almost finished. I have been very slow going with it. I haven't had any time to read lately, so I am trying to get there. I don't even have the new book yet. I am enjoying Twilight though. That is my status. I know this is a very busy time for everyone and that is probably why we aren't seeing each other here as much. Hopefully things will slow down soon and we can get back to normal. Whatever that is?

Does anyone blog anymore?

Goodness, I was wondering if I am the only one who looks at this blog?
Is anyone else reading A Train to Potevka? And has anyone finished Twilight?

I am reading Eclipse now, and A Train to Potevka. I cant stand it anymore, I have to read on to the 3rd and 4th book of Twilight, just to see what happens next. Its almost all I think about.
Reading on....

Twilight on the brain

Thanks for all the inspiring thoughts on Twilight. Bryan and I went and saw the movie on Monday. Wow! It was incredible. It's a little like the book, but lacks some things. But hey, that's the same story with every book to movie, right? Anyways, since then, I have Twilight on the brain. I just keep thinking about what possibly the 3rd book of Twilight could offer next? I have bought the first 2 books of Twilight in paperback, and I would like to keep it that way with the other 2. So every store I go to, I have to check out the books, and see if they have the other 2 in paperback.A little obsessed I know. But I still have not found it in paperback. I was duked at Walmart the other day. I thought I found Eclipse in paperback(there were only 3 left). Well, you can imagine my disappointment, when I realized that they were in Spanish. Good thing I hadn't gotten to the register yet, when I found that out, it would have been quite a challenge to read the 3rd book in Spanish.

Something quite amazing to share......Bryan is now reading A Train to Potevka. I asked him to read a few pages to tell me what he thinks about it.He became so fascinated with it, he made me go get him his own copy so he could finish it. He is passing me by so far already on chapter 6.
The race is on!

Keep going

I was unbelievably irritated with Bella at the end of New Moon too. Keep going though. She redeems herself by the end of the series. The 3rd book is better, but she's still a turd throughout. Just focus on other things in the book. The 3rd one moves a little faster too.

Moving on......

I have finished the second book of twilight, new moon. I am so irritated with Bella. Finally gets who she wants and then all she can think about is Jacob. Oops! Hope I didn't ruin it for you, Shonna. So anyways, I decided to take a little break.I will now read our book read....A Train to Potevka.
After I read that book, I will go back and finish #3 and #4 of twilight series. I hear that A Train to Potevka is a easy read. And well, frankly, after reading the twilight books so quickly I don't think I will have any trouble with getting that book done, and then I can go back to Twilight.

Moving on......................................

I also finished the Twilight series 2 days ago. Loved it! Now I'm ready to start the next one. Where are Jaime and Shonna in the books?

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Early start

I finished Train to Potevka two days ago. Thanks for recommending it, Jaime. Actually, the Weston's told me about it a few months ago - they met the author at some event for old folks here in Heber - but I never did read it. I really enjoyed it. I LOVE spy stories and I thought this guy's experience was very amazing. That's all I will say for now, but I'll continue to post as everyone else does.

Done with Twilight on the next?

Hey all, I have finished Twilight. I am on to read the next book, New Moon. (as soon as I can get a copy). Wow! I would have thought in the end, Alice, would have already known about Bella's plan. I was surprised at how far Bella got without having any of the Cullens around. And what you would'nt do for love?in Edwards case that is. Thats all I will say, since Shonna is still reading, I dont want to ruin it for you. The last 100 pages were hard to put down, I just had to finish.
Now that I have read the book, I desperatly want to go see the movie. Just to see how it is played out in the theater.
As far as the book club goes, I know that I have the next pick. Shonna, let us know when you're finished.
You all probably already know what the next book will be, A Train to Potevka by Mike Ramsdell. You can get it on the abebooks.com website for $1.00. Just a heads up for after shonnas done.

Got the book

Hey all, I know I am slow, but have had a very busy month with not much time to read. I did however squeeze in The Absolute True Diary of a Part time Indian by Sherman Alexie of Smoke Signals fame. Very good book. I really enjoyed it. Funny and sad at the same time. I would recommend it. Anyway, Sami brought the book in from her car and now I can begin. She is sad without her books and is going through withdrawls. Anyone have ideas of something new for her to read.

Twilight...again

I finished the series! Actually, I finished it just after Christmas. The last book, Breaking Dawn, is a very good read. It was unexpected in its details of the events (I had heard a few things that happened, but was pleasantly surprised at how those things played out) and very exciting to read. It was a nice finish to the series.

I hope those of you reading are enjoying the book. I know Mom, Karie, and Gary are not reading it, so they are missing out HUGE. We will forgive them, right?
